Professor S.Ramanujam, fondly remembered as ‘Nataka Ramanujam’ was born on 4th July 1935 in the Nanguneri village in Tamil Nadu, His early life and education was in Thuckckalai, a part of Travancore Kingdom and he became adept in Malayalam and Tamil.

He started his career as a school teacher in Thiruchittrambalam , near Sirkazhi in 1955. He joined as a teacher in Thambithottam Higher Secondary School, Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu and worked there from 1956 to 1964.

He took sabbatical to pursue his interest in theatre by joining National School of Drama, New Delhi and completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Drama , under the guidance of Shri. Ebrahim Alkazi in year 1967.

Post his theatre studies, he joined as lecturer in Fine Arts , Rural University Gandhigram in 1967 and worked there till 1977. His friendship with Prof. G.Sankara Pillai , School of Drama , Calicut University and he moved to Thrissur in 1978 to work as Assistant Director with Prof. G.Sankara Pillai till 1984.

He joined as Professor & Head of Department of Drama, Tamil University , in 1985 till his retirement in 1995. He stayed in Thanjavur till his demise on 7th Dec 2015.
